Bluebells

Wordsworth may have written about Daffodils, but if I were a poet I would write about my Bluebells.
They are looking particularly gorgeous this year.

At this time of year I wish I was back walking at Mirehouse in the Lake District, photos from May last year.

  1. Oh Helen, thanks so much for posting these wonderful photos ... bluebells are my favourite flowers and bring back lovely childhood memories for me, walking through Linacre Woods in Derbyshire. I'm always nagging my husband that if I return to UK for a holiday it has to be at bluebell time. I can remember the smell of them just looking at your photos.

I love bluebells too - it always evokes the start of summer for me -

  3. I'm seconding Julie here.
My favorite Aunt emigrated to Australia when I was a child, and she said the one thing she missed more than anything else was the sight and smell of wild primroses growing in the hedgerows. For me that one thing is beech woods and bluebells. I don't know why that memory is so strong and so evocative, but it is. Something about the way it reverses the normal position of sky blue and grass green perhaps.
I have a small group of bluebells planted, and they struggle through as best they can, but it's not the right climate for them, and I feel half guilty for trying to keep them here.
