Lunch time it started snowing so I packed faster than you can imagine and escaped south to Newcastle. 
This was the good stretch of the road to Alnwick.
Tomorrow is the dentist appointment and I am not missing it! 

So tonight I am snuggled into a very very comfortable Travelodge (Gosforth) which is new, clean, spacious and VERY warm.  Perfect.

Shame about the dentist tomorrow though!

Sunday in the studio

Snow forecast for tonight but none during the day and there has been a noticeable thaw – though it is COLD!!

And this afternoon I was back in the studio for a few hours working on the Australian hanging.
I decided to hand quilt rather than machine, somehow its much more personal and beautiful.

First day in 10 days with NO MORE SNOW!!!

Beautifully cold – Jack Frost has been visiting.

And the signal box with – BLUE SKY!  It lasted for about 10 minutes!

I think the snow might be melting actually…… though heavy snow forecast Monday which is NOT good as I need to get 50 miles to the dentist in Newcastle on Tuesday and my friend needs to get to Newcastle on Monday.

Mother Earth is not happy with me atm.

And I dug the studio out again (twice), before we went shopping and then again when I got back as the last pile had slid off the roof. 
At least now I can’t get stuck inside.

I went into the studio today for he first time in about 2 weeks - I put the fan heater on for a while before venturing in but had a very pleasant 2 hours – mostly clearing up, but that was OK, there’s new space to work in now.
It was good to be back in my own space.

And the weathermen lied…. they said no snow today!

Hello!  They said no snow today – they lied!  Not much though.
Hardly any sunshine – about 10 minutes this morning.

I dug my way to the studio again and got the door open, its all safe and snug in there but cold (–5C when I took these pictures)

You know in January I said I had never seen so much snow?

Well, I can say that again as we’ve got ever more…. few more inches last night and snowing heavily again now.

 

Managed to get out for a wonderful massage to ease the aching arms and hands.

The High Street was clear compared to yesterday.

Came home and dug out the paths and bins yet again. 
No hope of reaching ground level anymore, just shovelling the loose snow off.
DH’s car is at the end of the drive – he can dig that out by himself!

I have that strange sensation of seeing things from 6 inches higher than normal (because of the compacted snow)
5”6’ would be most acceptable most of the time!

 

I know exactly how he feels (see bunny below)
I am worried about him… oh just heard the snow slithering noise… better go and check all is OK…

Oh darn, need to dig out the back door again as its all slithered off over the path. 
The front of the house hasn’t lost any snow yet and that's more worrying.

I’ll leave you with a snuggled bunny and the thought that maybe I can sense a change in the air, maybe the air pressure has changed or something?

Wednesday

Firstly I want to say a huge thank you for all the lovely comments you’ve left over the last few days.
I really appreciate them. 

I got my antibiotics today and the toothache is feeling better already,
but the shovelling is causing other aches and pains to flare up.

Returning home from the village I attempted to reverse into the drive.

Rule number one – when watching snow pile on RHS, don’t forget to see what’s happening on the LHS.
See how deep it is?  and there’s a good deep covering of about 6 inches on the road under the car.
Thank goodness I had winter tyres put on a few weeks ago.

We are easily up to 60cm and more has fallen today and………
…….. yes more forecast tonight and tomorrow… and Friday…. and Saturday…

New fabrics to play with

We had more snow overnight, – bringing the total so far to 50-60cm.  Well over my knees.
I’ve just come in from shovelling snow off the lane - 3+ hours of solid snow shovelling has left me aching everywhere and frozen to the bones.
Don’t ask where the men were….. or the snow plough, enough to say I am NOT happy.

I’ll leave you with a post I wrote a few days ago just for this sort of time….  I’m of to get warm.

We need some COLOUR back into this blog! (Not to mention some sort of textiles theme)

Let me show you some new fabrics that arrived a week or so ago.

I have a new favourite fabric shop - Steamstar Fabrics - I popped these bundles into the shopping basket and they arrived the next day.

Guess what?
Yes – more snow!!  Another 5 or 6 inches today.

This was the view this morning, even the prayer flags are sinking!

   

 

And this afternoon….
The snow fell off the roof right outside the back door (and that Bay Tree is never going to forgive me).

Sunday

Its a dull and cold day.
More snow overnight – its now up to my knees so I dug out the paths again….
…. to the car, studio, bins, compost heap, bunny (he’s fine the Eglu is inside an Igloo!)
Not looking forward to having to dig out the lane again.

The boys are having a lazy Sunday, I’ve been doing loads of dusting, washing and hoovering (trying to get rid of the smoke smell – its still lingering on) and trying to do “chores” in case the electricity fails again.

The studio is sinking even further… the snow that fell last night was “sticky” snow
and there’s another load waiting to fall off the roof

I did dig out the steps so I can open the door – but my arms and shoulders ached so much after digging I knew I wouldn't get much done so I came back to the warm house

Saturday afternoon

I was glad to see this NEDL van next to the house with the guys fixing the electricity.

We have a coal fire in the sitting room – but discovered early on Saturday morning that the chimney is blocked. 
It was quite a comedy moment and we can STILL smell the smoke in the house.
You could only laugh.

DH was up clearing off the kitchen roof – see the scaffolding? 
The guys finally came on Tuesday to fix the guttering that had fallen down in January. 
Lets see if this one holds up any better!

We are lucky to have a convenient sledging hill just over the road at a friend farm
