Liberty indulgence

On the recent London trip a highlight was a visit to the Liberty store.
Today I sorted out all the Liberty fabrics I have collected over the years.  Some from London, from Ebay, from “worn and washed fabrics” and some are over 20 years old – I made two pairs of shorts when I was on my “student placement year” aged 20, no sewing machine, just hand stitch – though I was only a size 10/12 then, so less to stitch!  Somehow I managed to retain some scraps all this time and through… let me count….8 house moves.

Ready for Liberty indulgence?

I can’t do chocolate these days….. lets do Liberty fabrics and books (yes there are a few more additions this month.  No, I am not going to admit how many!)

Question is……. exactly what to do with them.  Precious fabrics are never a good idea……its daunting to make the first cut.  I’m thinking about the Pink Paisley fabric (pic above this one) being a large centre piece, with smaller blocks around – lots of different prints- and then borders of magenta and teal prints.  I did have the money to order a metre or two, but I blew it at the Plumo sale (I’ve had the Rajasthan cushions in my sights for a while).  Oophs.

P.S.  The French books – I got them made at Blurb, easy to use software, great quality – use Premium paper for printing.

  4. What a wonderful collection, Helen, can't wait to see what you will come up with! I felt an urgent need to start digging in my own supplies to see my Liberty collection (although it's not as large as yours!)

  6. You're right about precious fabric.. I remember watching my mother - usually a dressmaker with the most casual-seeming skill you can imagine! - sitting, scissors in hand, in front of a piece of Chinese satin, which she had pinned and checked at least four times, and saying "I'm not sure I dare cut it!".

She did, and it looked great!

  7. What lovely fabrics. It does all look too good to use - until the right project comes along, but meanwhile enjoy!

Have looked back and seen the studio's progress and your photos of the Chateaux in the Loire Valley. I visited the area 3 years ago and was great to be reminded of a great holiday.

  8. Just catching up with you here - congrats in moving back to your beautiful new studio! Those liberty prints certainly take me back - I go for the darker colors, the burgundy, dark blue, red & smokey blue one with a fan of flowers, sort of reminds me of peacock feathers - they're up as kithcen 'curtains'.

I ws at Villandry on the 14th July! Amazing place, something for everyone, looked great even in almost a daylong downpour! My boys were quite patient while waiting for us to take pics of shutters, railings etc! Your books are amazing, they must be feindishly expensive tho! Certainly beats the album ;)
