The thaw starts…

Again, thanks for the wonderful comments from everyone.  It’s very comforting.

The shed roof has completely gone now.  There are a few storage options coming through.  Went to see one today, another to see tomorrow.  I’ve ordered the container which should be here this week.  Now there’s the insurance claim and paperwork to sort through.

And I have a mad urge to stitch.  The Pfaff machine has been left out and I’ve ordered a walking foot and some more bobbins for it.  But I shall miss the Bernina for FME.  Not that I know where my threads are.    collapse

The snow came off the roof last night….. as did the gutter.  The old gutter by the wires has cracked and broken too and the front of the house looks the same.  I’m keeping a close watch on the river and hoping like hell for a gradual defrost.

My shrub has gone splat (Gill no longer will we look out at the same shrub in snow).

  1. The shrub will probably recover if you cut it back, Helen. Shame the same can't be said for the shed and the gutter. We're also looking up a lot here at the old cottage gutter which is cast iron and seems to bear up although John has removed more snow from the pitched bit of the roof so that it does not take the gutters down when it melts.
How awful it must feel to be able to look at the sky and trees through what was once the ceiling of your studio! Hope your new container gets there soon!
And go with that urge. I know it does not seem like a priority to stitch at the moment but I bet it will do miracles for your mood!

  2. Like you, Helen, we are hoping for a slow thaw, but thankful that we replaced all our old, brittle plastic guttering with metal stuff last summer. (phew)

Yes, I'd cut that shrub back later and hope for regrowth. I think you will grow back stronger and more creative without any cutting back, though ;-)

    Hi Helen,
Denise here in Ottawa. We are so used to the snow, that it's amazing to see the damage it has cause your art studio! I want to send out my wishes for a speedy rebuild and a big virtual hug to you and your family as you deal with this!
It's good to hear that you want to stitch!! I'm looking forward to the days where this is behind you and your art is again gracing this blog!
I do hope that you get a slow thaw, watch the streams, they rush up fast during a melt!
    Cheers, Denise
